Overview
The booster pump controller is a dedicated variable-frequency drive designed to maintain constant water pressure in residential, commercial and small utility water systems. It works with both single-phase and three-phase AC induction motors in the sub-1.5 kW range and is optimised for domestic booster, overhead-tank and pressure-boosting applications.
Using a pressure sensor input, the drive continuously measures line pressure and adjusts pump speed to keep pressure within the configured set-point band. It incorporates soft-start, dry-well detection and comprehensive protections to improve pump and motor life, while providing a compact, easy-to-use solution that can be deployed with existing pumps.
Key Features
Constant pressure control with pressure sensor feedback
Maintains nearly uniform outlet pressure by varying pump speed based on a pressure transducer input. Suitable for small and medium booster systems and domestic pressure-boosting applications.
Supports single-phase and three-phase induction motors
A single drive family can be configured to run compatible single-phase or three-phase AC induction motors within its power range, simplifying stocking and application engineering.
Eliminates external starting capacitors for single-phase motors (supported configurations)
Built-in phase-shifting and self-start capability remove the need for separate starting and running capacitors on compatible single-phase motors, reducing system components and wiring complexity.
Soft-start and reduced mechanical stress
Variable-frequency soft-start limits inrush current, minimises hydraulic shock and reduces pipe and pump wear compared to direct-on-line starting.
Two model options covering typical domestic booster ratings
- ~0.6–0.75 kW single-phase / 0.75 kW three-phase
- ~0.75 kW single-phase / 1.1 kW three-phase
(Exact motor compatibility and ratings as per final datasheet.)
Protection for pump, motor and drive
Integrated protections include over-voltage, under-voltage, overcurrent, earth fault and overload, helping protect the pump-motor set and the drive in fault conditions.
Works with a wide range of tank sizes
Control algorithms allow operation even with relatively small supply tanks, making it suitable for compact domestic systems as well as larger storage tanks.
User-friendly interface
On-board four-digit seven-segment LED display with a simple three-key keypad for parameter setting, status viewing and basic diagnostics.
Certified and robust design
Designed to meet relevant safety and EMC standards, with UL/CSA certification available on specific variants (refer to datasheet), enabling use in markets that demand certified booster pump controllers.
Applications
- Domestic and apartment building booster systems for constant tap/shower pressure
- Pressure boosting in small commercial buildings, hotels and offices
- Overhead-tank based systems where constant outlet pressure is required
- Retrofitting existing DOL booster pumps with a variable-speed controller
- Small community water distribution systems in housing layouts or gated communities
