OEM Motor-Drive Design, Compliance & Manufacturing Capabilities

ACIM / PMSM / BLDC Up to 20 HP (15 kW) UL / CSA / CE Experience EN / IEC 61000, CISPR In-house Testing & PCB Assembly

Versa Drives’ core business is to design and manufacture motor drives customised to the application. Across more than three decades, we have built experience controlling most motor types up to about 20 HP (≈ 15 kW), while designing to international industry standards wherever required.

Because we own both design and manufacturing, we can select the right motor and control topology, design the power electronics and embedded firmware around it, and deliver a production-ready controller or motor–drive set that fits the OEM’s product and duty cycle. Our embedded-systems experience also allows us to integrate PLC-like logic and application functions into the drive, reducing the need for separate controllers in many machines.

Drive Capability Ranges

Input Supply
  • 110 V AC, single-phase
  • 230 V AC, single-phase or three-phase
  • 415 V AC, three-phase
  • 90–265 V AC universal-input front ends
  • 12 V DC to 800 V DC buses for low- and high-voltage DC systems
Output Power
  • 230 V, three-phase drives up to approx. 5 HP (3.7 kW)
  • 415 V, three-phase drives up to approx. 20 HP (15 kW)
  • Low-voltage DC drives for 12 / 24 / 48 / 60 / 72 V systems in the sub-kW to few-kW range
Safety & Electrical Standards (Design Experience)
  • Safety frameworks: UL / CSA / CE
  • Electrical & EMC: EN / IEC 61000 family
  • CISPR 11 / 22
  • EMI/EMC management with appropriate filters, chokes and PCB layout rules
Interfaces & Communications
  • Digital I/O for commands, status and interlocks
  • Analogue inputs for speed/torque reference and sensor feedback
  • Encoder interfaces for incremental encoders
  • Communication interfaces: MODBUS, RS-232, RS-485
  • CAN for EV and industrial applications
  • Options for Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules where end products require connectivity
Special Functions Implemented in Projects
  • Power factor control where required
  • Electronic gearing and synchronisation
  • Braking (dynamic or regenerative depending on system)
  • DC operation for battery and DC-bus systems
  • Dual-output drives in some applications
  • Fanless designs for low-noise / high-reliability needs
  • Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) for solar pump controllers
Enclosures
  • Designs from open-frame electronics to IP20–IP66 enclosures
  • Integration into OEM housings when the drive PCB is part of the machine assembly

Design & Testing Infrastructure

Design Tools

  • PCB and circuit design with tools such as OrCAD and PSpice
  • Mechanical design with SOLIDWORKS (and similar 3D CAD)
  • System and motor-control simulations using tools such as PSIM
  • Measurement and automation support using LabVIEW and in-house tools

Test & Measurement

  • Programmable AC / DC power sources for supply variation tests
  • Power analysers for efficiency, harmonics and performance validation
  • Dynamometer setups for controlled motor-load testing
  • Thermal-imaging cameras for hotspot detection and thermal validation
  • Environmental chambers for temperature and humidity cycling

External Labs

  • Working relationships with accredited third-party labs
  • Ability to take designs through formal safety and EMC compliance testing when required by the OEM or export market

Manufacturing Infrastructure & Capacity

Production Capability

  • Single-shift capacity of 100,000+ drives and around 200,000 fans per year, with room to scale
  • Most components and sub-assemblies sourced and produced locally, with suppliers developed over two decades

In-house Assembly

  • PCB assemblies built in-house on automatic and semi-automatic lines
  • Drive assemblies tested under defined procedures for each product family
  • Roadmap for further automation of assembly lines

Supply-Chain Strength

  • Long-term relationships with semiconductor manufacturers and global distributors
  • Ability to balance performance, cost and availability while managing supply risk

Footprint

  • Production space: approx. 450 m² (4,800 sq.ft.)
  • Stores / warehousing: approx. 450 m² (4,800 sq.ft.)

This combination of in-house PCB assembly, local mechanical supply and strong semiconductor partnerships allows Versa Drives to support both long-running volume products and specialised, lower-volume OEM controllers.
